Bethesda Leaks Personal Details of Fallout 76 Customers

Glitch in Bethesda Support System Accidentally Gives Users Access to Other Customer Info

With Fallout 76's poor reception, numerous bugs, weird bag-gate, and homophobic player controversy, you'd really think it couldn't get any worse for Bethesda.

Unfortunately there were rather a lot of receipts, thanks to the many people who bought the £175 Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition who were claiming the canvas bag Bethesda advertised. By the time I was able to load my character, I spawned inside a completely new set of Power Armour I'd never had before, with my old one stuck in my inventory. However, the problems extend to support for the game, too.

The incident began yesterday when a number of customers took to Reddit, Twitter, and Bethesda's forums to reveal they could see other people's support tickets after submitting their own.

While I noticed some of the improvements, like fewer issues with building and relocating my camp, I also noticed enemies acting more strangely, and even occasionally getting healed for seemingly no reason. One says to "please rest assure I have no desire to stalk you or mess with your Fallout 76 experience", though players remain understandably concerned that not everyone who got access to this info will be so nice.

We are still investigating this incident and will provide additional updates as we learn more. To do so, customers just needed to submit a ticket by January 31st, 2019, and "we'll arrange to send you a replacement as soon as the bags are ready", Bethesda tweeted.

Unfortunately, a bug in the system allowed users to access tickets from other customers, containing email and home addresses, as well as partial credit card information. "We plan to notify customers who may have been impacted".

There's not much you can do about this particular breach until we have more information from Bethesda, though if you're really anxious about extra spam, you could switch to a new email address.
