Obsidian Reveals The Outer Worlds At The Game Awards

This is the newest single-player RPG from Obsidian set in a brand new universe. Though numerous games revealed at the event were smaller indie titles or "AA" games, they made up for their lower budgets with unique settings, intriguing gameplay mechanics, and pure passion on the part of the developers speaking about them. Tonight at The Game Awards 2018, Obsidian finally unveiled the project, The Outer Worlds, which sees original Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky at the helm. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. Exploring the far reaches of space, you'll encounter different factions, all of which are competing for power. Set in a quirky sci-fi universe filled to the brim with humor, attractive vistas, and risky aliens, the game manages to blend elements of Fallout, Mass Effect, and even Bioshock into one package. Spacer's Choice is linked to some sort of George Jetson style space gun, while Auntie Cleo's looks to have something to do with ointments and creams. We don't know much else about the game at this time, but that's more than enough to have the BMD crew throwing around high-fives and downing celebratory shots.

In a tweet published earlier this week, Geoff Keighley (presenter and driving force behind the massive show) announced there would be no less than TEN new game announcements at the show. It is also the first first-person shooter from Obsidian, who have been more known for their isometric RPGs than first person shooters.
