Browns hire Freddie Kitchens Instant analysis of Cleveland's new head coach

According to a report from's Chris Mortensen, the Browns will announce the hiring of Freddie Kitchens - who served as the team's offensive coordinator after the firings of Hue Jackson and Todd Haley - as their coach on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cleveland Browns have parted ways with interim head coach Gregg Williams, our P.J. Ziegler confirmed on Wednesday. The Browns also went up from 20 to 12 in rushing efficiency and 29 to second overall offensively, but the main reason Kitchens is now given the keys to the entire team is his relationship with Mayfield, and how important that is to the future of the Browns. Williams received a formal interview to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns on January 1, after he led the Browns to a 5-3 record as their interim head coach.

The Browns have had 10 different head coaches since the franchise reentered the National Football League in 1999, and two have been interim head coaches.

Moreover, Kitchens' story gave him a strength many first-time head coaches may not have. The Browns even asked Stefanski who he would include on his coaching staff, should he get the job, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Kitchens and Williams kept their players focused and motivated following the mid-season coaching change and the Browns went 7-8-1 following an 0-16 season in 2017 under Jackson. "He's gotten the ball out of the quarterback's hands quicker".

As the team's success grew, Kitchens never campaigned to be Cleveland's coach but leading a team was always a goal. "I heard the other day somebody say something about I wasn't ready to be a head coach".

The barrel-chested Kitchens became a fan favorite in a city that loves underdogs. "I love the town of Cleveland".
