The Toronto Raptors are reportedly taking a chance on Patrick McCaw.

According to several reports, McCaw is now planning to sign a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors. After clearing the waiver wire, the third-year wing became an unrestricted free agent.

A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the league has opened a review at the request of the Golden State Warriors, the team with which McCaw spent the previous two seasons.

McCaw, who won two National Basketball Association titles as a swingman for the Warriors, plans to sign a veteran's minimum contract with the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

If the Cavaliers were found to have had a financial agreement with both McCaw and his agent while he was still a Warrior, they can be fined up to $3 million.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game on a stacked Warriors team last season before suffering a scary looking injury in March.

On Tuesday, the Warriors reportedly asked the National Basketball Association to review the Cavs' signing and quick release of McCaw.

After waiving McCaw, the Cavs, who are now dealing with several injuries, went out and signed point guard Cameron Payne to shore up their ranks at the point guard position. Under the terms of the deal, McCaw will make the minimum salary (less than he would have made had he stayed with Golden State).

McCaw played only three games with the Cavaliers and was waived before his contract would have been guaranteed for the remainder of this season. "But if the National Basketball Association voided McCaw's contract, he could become a restricted free agent again".
