Video shows bus driver rescuing baby wandering alone near road

The Milwaukee County Transit System says an alert bus driver rescued a young child found wandering barefoot on a freeway overpass in frigid temperatures.

The child, who was less than 1-year-old, was barefoot and wearing a onesie and diaper, according to MCTS. Ivic-Drobnjak stops her bus and jumps out, stops traffic and runs toward the crying boy who seems to know she's coming for him; he stops and looks toward her. He said he believes his wife, who he said has a mental illness, took the baby to the church just across the freeway and forgot about her.

After a period of time, emergency officials are seen arriving before they take the child, fast asleep in the driver's arms, with them.

The baby girl was unharmed.

Ms Ivic said she was grateful she was in the right place at the right time to keep the baby safe. When he saw the police gathered near his home, and noticed his daughter was not there, he ran outside.

In the video, Ivic, a mother of two, can be heard saying, "I'm shaken". Officers later reunited the toddler with his father.

Milwaukee police told WITI no charges were filed in the case.

On Thursday, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele honored Ivic for her heroic actions.

A Milwaukee bus driver went above the call of duty when she stopped to save an unlikely would-be passenger: a baby.

Ivic has been in Milwaukee for 12 years - and an employee of MCTS for five years.
