Megyn Kelly officially leaves NBC with reported $30 million payout

NBC News Megyn Kelly reach separation agreement

Ratings were lackluster on "Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly" and for her morning talk show, "Megyn Kelly Today".

Kelly was roughly halfway through a three-year deal for a whopping total of $69 million.

It's not immediately clear what's next for Kelly.

The former "Megyn Kelly Today" Show host is slated to be paid out the remaining $30 million of her $69 million three year contract with the network.

While at Fox, Kelly's accusations of unwanted sexual advances by the network's late chief executive, Roger Ailes, helped lead to his firing. Her regret over the comment, however, was apparently not enough to sway NBC executives.

On Friday night, NBC News confirmed toThe New York Times that both sides reached an agreement, nearly three months after the network fired Kelly for wondering why it was inappropriate for people to wear blackface costumes on Halloween. At the time, the network pulled her off the air after Kelly defended the use of blackface when it's part of a Halloween costume. "Today" loyalists were furious that fan favorite Tamron Hall was shown the door to make room for Kelly.

Since her departure from the third hour of Today, her show has been replaced by rotating anchors Dylan Dreyer, Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Al Roker and others.

In a sense, Kelly was caught in a no-woman's land: some at NBC were suspicious of her because of the Fox News background, while her former audience at Fox resented her for tough questioning of Donald Trump on the presidential campaign trail.

Kelly's tenure at NBC News was rocky from the start, beginning with a short-lived Sunday night newsmagazine program that was rolled out with a widely panned interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kelly raised eyebrows past year when asked if Lauer could ever make a comeback.

She soon apologized. "I've never been a 'P.C.' [politically correct] kind of person - but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age", she said.

She's been off the air since October after her remarks on blackface, and exit negotiations had dragged for two months over the holidays.
