Transfer: Coutinho takes final decision on joining Manchester United from Barcelona

Even Manchester United have been speculatively linked with the player, although it seems highly unlikely he would entertain the notion of moving to Old Trafford given his Liverpool past.

Barcelona midfielder, Philippe Coutinho has finally made a decision to stay at the Camp Nou amid interest from Manchester United.

According to Don Balon, PSG believe one of the solutions to this problem is by persuading wantaway Barcelona star Coutinho to join the club in the hope that his friendship with Neymar will mean that he stays due to their relationship.

It's far too early to label Philippe Coutinho a flop at Barcelona or suggest he is surplus to requirements, but you can definitely say he has fallen short of expectations so far. Coutinho was a big-money arrival at the Nou Camp last January as he left Liverpool in a £142m deal.

Denis came off the bench against Levante in midweek to earn Barça a penalty as they were beaten 2-1 in their Copa del Rey round of 16 first leg. Coutinho has to work to turn things around. The article does warn that, while Coutinho is "angry" at his current situation, he's not ready to throw in the towel just yet - after all, the move to Barcelona had been his dream. The La Liga leaders are looking to cash in on to fund a move for Neymar.

That's because Coutinho's £142 million deal contained a number of clauses. And that has led to speculation that Manchester United could look to bring him back to the Premier League. But Barcelona will only listen to offers that will see them pocket the same fee they paid for the player, reports Calcio Mercato. Also the Red Devils are yet to announce who the next manager will be and before signing the Brazilian they should get a nod from the boss.
