The annual Worldwide Threat Assessment from the Directorate of National Intelligence (DNI), released by Coats, noted that North Korea had not conducted any nuclear or missile tests in over a year and had declared its support for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Coats' fear is shared by the Pentagon - which banned Huawei and ZTE phones from U.S. military bases past year - and by other intelligence chiefs, who accused the firms of spying on behalf of the Chinese government.

"The Chinese counter-intelligence threat is more deep, more diverse, more vexing, more challenging, more comprehensive and more concerning than any counterintelligence threat I can think of", FBI Director Christopher Wray said.

On Tuesday, top US national security officials testified before the US Senate Intelligence Committee naming the most significant threats facing the United States domestically and internationally.

Han told Reuters that he had no information on a possible upcoming second summit between Kim and Trump.

Iran is now not working to build a nuclear weapon, but the Islamic Republic could resume such activities if it does not reap benefits from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, US National Intelligence Director Dan Coats said on Tuesday. Moscow may also employ other methods, including the spread of misinformation, hack and leak policies, and manipulation of data "in a more targeted fashion to influence US policy".

Elsewhere in the Middle East, the report stresses that the so-called Islamic State group (IS) is not yet defeated, despite the Trump administration's claims to the contrary.

But some analysts cautioned against politicizing a document meant to synthesize various agencies' analyses of some of the most hard problems facing the U.S. The report predicted additional US -bound migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, with migrants preferring to travel in caravans in hopes of a safer journey. She added that they still command "thousands of fighters in Iraq and Syria".

The intelligence assessment of Afghanistan, more than 17 years into a conflict that began after the 9/11 attacks on the USA, projected a continued military stalemate. In doing so, they said, it has at least temporarily lessened the nuclear threat.

The U.S. has reimposed heavy bilateral sanctions on Iran after Mr. Trump withdrew from the deal and is pressuring other countries to cut commercial and energy ties with Tehran.

The intelligence assessment of Afghanistan, more than 17 years into a conflict that began after the 9-11 attacks on the USA, projected a continued military stalemate. Without mentioning prospects for a peace deal, which appear to have improved only in recent days, the report said, "neither the Afghan government nor the Taliban will be able to gain a strategic military advantage in the Afghan war in the coming year" if the USA maintains its current levels of support. The paper also said in an editorial last week that the principle "reflects the requirement of the times and developing reality most correctly".

"We will wait with patience and in good faith and, together with the USA, advance step by step toward the goal to be reached by the two countries", Kim said.

The intelligence report warned about Russian Federation.

Trump has repeatedly rejected their conclusion that Russian Federation deeply interfered in the 2016 election that brought him to power, helping him vanquish the election favorite Hillary Clinton.

The intelligence officials said they had protected the 2018 USA congressional elections from outside interference, but expected renewed and likely more sophisticated attacks on the 2020 presidential contest.
