Otherwise, Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino says it will result in a lawsuit.

The officer fired his gun at the vehicle after it fled south into Mexico eventually stopping several yards from the port, the release said.

U.S. Border Patrol agents took another large group of migrants into custody Friday morning near the remote Antelope Wells border crossing in southwest New Mexico.

He said he was shocked to see coils of concertina wire being hung from top to bottom on the Arizona side of the border in nearby Nogales, adding it makes no sense from a security standpoint.

The resolution called the razor wire "not only irresponsible, but inhumane" and argues that this type of wall "is only found in a war, prison or battle setting".

On Wednesday, Nogales City Council passed a resolution that would sue the federal government if the barbed wire was not removed.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a helicopter spotted the group amid freezing temperatures while investigating a possible campfire.

He was initially taken to hospital in Nogales, Mexico.

Just how unsafe these crossings can be was highlighted in December when a 7-year-old girl from Guatemala died in US custody after she and her father crossed in a large group in a remote area of New Mexico.

Photos published by the Nogales International newspaper show rows of concertina wire stacked along the approximately two-story wall.

The CBP said the request was for "high-risk urban areas commonly exploited by criminal smuggling organizations". Illegal crossings in that area have dropped steeply in recent years.
