- Tottenham have won 20 league games this season - only in their top-flight title winning campaign of 1960-1961 have they ever won more after their first 26 matches of a season (22).

Kieran Trippier's corner was played short to Eriksen, who floated in an inviting cross for Davison Sanchez to power home a diving head for his first Tottenham goal in the 33rd minute.

The kick was awarded after Jan Vertonghen was adjudged to have fouled James Maddison in the box.

Maddison took hold of the ball and presented it to the former England striker after he replaced Gray, but with his first touch, Hugo Lloris dived to save his penalty.

Prior to Tottenham's tie against Leicester on Sunday afternoon, Shearer confessed that he has been impressed with the way Mauricio Pochettino's men have stayed within touching distance of the league's front runners Liverpool and Manchester City.

With Harry Kane and Dele Alli still out injured and no new signings made in January, Pochettino thinks his players deserve huge credit for a run of form that has kept them within five points of first place.

"What happens happens at the end of the season, they are going to be remembered".

Speaking on the BBC's Match of the Day 2 (10/02/2019), Premier League legend Alan Shearer suggested where Tottenham's biggest weakness was.

"He's one of the best keepers in the world", he said.

Leicester, who missed good chances at a steady rate through the game, have now lost five of their last six games in all competitions as the pressure grows on Claude Puel.

The South Korea worldwide went tumbling in the area after an attempted tackle by Harry Maguire, but referee Oliver showed him a yellow card after deeming he had dived.

Leicester's positive start to the second half brought a golden opportunity to equalise with their 60th minute penalty. Known for accurate spot-kicks, Jamie Vardy took responsibility but failed to beat Lloris from 12-yards out.

"I know bookmakers have them as third favourites but, for the points they have racked up, you simply can not take them out of the discussion".

That was after a well-worked move allowed Ricardo Pereira to drill in a cross from the right.

Vardy gave Leicester hope in the 76th minute, pouncing from close-range to convert Pereira's cross in typically predatory fashion.
