Jamie Carragher criticises Maurizio Sarri for 'turning Chelsea into Arsenal'

Derby manager Frank Lampard has brushed off suggestions that he could replace Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea if the under-fire Italian is sacked.

With crucial fixtures in Europe, the Premier League, FA Cup and a Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on the horizon, players have been urged not to let disappointments of the last few weeks affect their focus ahead of what will be a pivotal fortnight.

Unsurprisingly, bookmakers have Lampard listed as an option to take over should Sarri depart Stamford Bridge, yet Chelsea's all-time leading scorer hopes the current boss can turn around the team's fortunes.

Maurizio Sarri's job has come under serious threat after his Chelsea side were hammered 6-0 by Manchester City and slipped out of the top 4 positions in the League.

Sarri's lack of a pre-season is cited as one of the reasons behind the ongoing support from Marina Granovskaia, who played a key part in bringing the 60-year-old to Chelsea in the summer.

Under Lampard's guidance, Derby are strong contenders for promotion this season, with only goal difference separating them from the play-off places at present.

"It doesn't happen to Chelsea much so when it does it's a shock", he said.

The Italian's future as head coach is reportedly in doubt after the City debacle continued a worrying run of results.

"It's certainly a club I respect and a manager that I respect so it wouldn't make me smile or anything different because my job is here", the former England worldwide told British media.
