Apple Is Reportedly Launching A 'Netflix For News' Service This Year

Major outlets including The New York Times and The Washington Post haven't agreed to license their content to Apple's news service partly because of concerns about the proposed terms, according to Tuesday's report. This year, the company will use the event to announce its rumored subscription news service, according to a new report from BuzzFeed.

But there's a chance that a news subscription service isn't the only thing on the docket for the March 25 event. One of them is going to be the successor to Apple's first-generation AirPods, dubbed the AirPods 2, along with the AirPower wireless charging mat, which was teased during the iPhone X launch that happened back in 2017.

Greek tech news site iPhoneHellas claims it received confirmed pre-order and release date information from a "reliable source" in Apple's production chain in China.

However, Apple has been holding events in March for years, so it's not entirely surprising news.

Apple will reportedly host a March 25th event at The Steve Jobs Theatre in its Apple Park campus where it's expected to unveil its rumoured subscription news service.

Apple Inc is planning to integrate its acquired app Texture into Apple News to start its news subscription service. The service has been described as "Netflix for news", allowing members to read an unlimited amount of content from partnered publishers for a set monthly fee.

However, as noted above, this could be an event that's not just about the News subscription service, but rather Apple's new subscription services in general.

It is worth noting that the report does suggest the company may change its plans if it can't nail down negotiations with publishers.

As far as this rumor goes, looks like we will have to wait until March to find out what Apple has in store for its customers, so stay tuned for more coverage from our side.

An Apple spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by ZDNet.
