Max Verstappen drives the new Red Bull RB15 for the first time

A statement from Red Bull's website hinted the new look could only make a brief appearance, claiming it to be a "special edition livery" for the arrival of the new Honda engines and driver Pierre Gasly.

Red Bull took four straight double titles at the start of the decade but has taken only a handful of wins in most years of the hybrid era, frequently pinning its deficit on erstwhile supplier Renault.

Red Bull have unveiled their first Honda-powered Formula 1 auto, with Max Verstappen driving the initial laps at Silverstone.

"I am very excited to get started as the off-season has been quite long", said Verstappen.

Toro Rosso finished ninth of 10 teams a year ago with the Honda engine but Red Bull have sounded optimistic about the progress made by the Japanese manufacturer.

Its 12-year partnership with Renault has now come to an end and instead it has linked up with Honda, joining junior team Toro Rosso on the marque's roster, after it made the move for 2018.

"After my first run, I was smiling - very happy with how the vehicle was behaving plus the engine as well".

Over the course of six runs at the Northamptonshire circuit, the new charger performed faultlessly, with Max Verstappen completing 39 laps as the team performed a battery of systems checks ahead of next week's first test in Barcelona. "I really want to feel how it upshifts, downshifts, how the drivability is, how much power there is".

"We are expecting a lot from Honda and are positive, but it will not be ideal from race one". "The first time was in Super Formula, so I went to Japan a lot, spent time in the country to learn the culture, to learn the way they communicate, the way they work and it's really different than what we have in Europe so you really need to adapt yourself to the culture and understand how things work there if you want to extract the best from the people". While they will need to give Honda some time before they can realise their true potential, the data has already been very promising.
