YouTube Music and YouTube Premium join Google's already available Google Play Music and Google Play Movies services and will be taking on a host of competing streaming platforms in the country. It is a music streaming service that is aimed to offer official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus remixes, live performances, covers and music videos and so much more. The YouTube Music app is available for both Android and iOS platforms and can be download from the app stores of the respective platforms.

Google has announced the new YouTube Music service alongside the other two new services - YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium.

"We are seeing lot of engagement across diverse set of content in India and India is exporting tremendous amount of music culture". This has been consistent since last few number of months, what we are seeing is Indian music dominating globally. There is also a good recommendations engine that starts throwing up music you are likely to like based on what you have already listened to.

While all this is available for free in the ad-supported version of YouTube Music, the company will also bring in YouTube Music Premium, a paid membership that allows users to play songs and videos in the background while they toggle between apps, write a text message or go for a run-which, in short, means you will finally be able to keep music playing even with the screen locked.

Smart search allows users to look up song which they can't remember what it's called.

The company said subscribers of Google Play Music will get YouTube Music Premium membership as part of their subscription each month. Further, the music listening experience will be ad-free, and users get an option to offline downloads too. Here's how YouTube Music and YouTube Premium differ. Like YouTube Premium this includes a generous three-month free trial. India's love for music comes as no surprise for the company, which has seen T-Series, a music label and movie production house from the country, nearly overtake PewDiePie, the biggest YouTuber in terms of subscribers.

The ad-supported version of YouTube Music is free and to get access to ad-free YouTube Music Premium, you have to pay Rs 99 a month, the company said in a statement. In India, YouTube Music will take on the likes of other music streaming apps like Gaana, JioSaava, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and others.

Over the past year artists like Guru Randhawa, Badshah, Arijit Singh and Neha Kakkar have reached the YouTube music country charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, along with the global chart.
