Page explained that since she and Strzok were both involved with the counterintelligence investigation of possible Russian collusion during the 2016 election, the "insurance policy" was a reference to how the investigation would magnify if Trump became president.

Former FBI attorney Lisa Page told congressional investigators a year ago that Peter Strzok - a senior FBI agent in the probes into the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns - joined special counsel Robert Mueller's team because if it resulted in impeachment it could be good for his career.

"I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy's office-that there's no way [Trump] gets elected-but I'm afraid we can't take that risk", Strzok wrote in a cryptic text message to Page, adding "it's like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you're 40".

In one text on August 8, 2016, Strzok told Page that "we'll stop" Trump from becoming president.

Facts first: Trump's claims about the Justice Department and Clinton email investigation are not supported by Page's recent testimony or the conclusions reached by independent investigators.

Both Page and Strzok no longer work at the FBI - Page resigned and Strzok was sacked.

According to recently released transcripts of her testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Page explained that Strzok initially had reservations about joining the Mueller team because if it didn't result in anything material it could delay his upward mobility within the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The agents were dismissed from Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigative team in 2017 after it was discovered they had exchanged anti-Trump texts.

Rep. Doug Collins, Georgia Republican, inserted the transcripts into the Congressional Record during a floor speech, defying a Justice Department that he felt was moving too slowly to clear the information for public consumption. "No he won't. We'll stop it".

Strzok also noted he was not sure how often the FBI briefed retired personnel about closed cases - as they did in the Clinton email investigation in late October 2016. The Department of Justice under President Trump has reportedly launched an investigation into whether the foundation acted as a "pay-to-play" scheme. McCabe has said he could not recall such a meeting taking place. "And that's, as I said, the advice that we got from the Department was that they did not think - that it was constitutionally vague and not sustainable".
