The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly also had interest in the veteran receiver.

How is Golden Tate feeling about getting paid?

With just five wide receivers now under contract in New England, Patriots fans are anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop at the position in free agency.

Prior to last season Tate had two consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He caught 76 passes for 816 yards with five touchdowns in 2018.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Tate is signing a four-year deal worth up to $37.5 million with $23 million guaranteed.

Tate is coming off a poor campaign in which he was dealt from Detroit to Philadelphia midway through the season. He was targeted at least 120 times in each of his first four seasons in the Motor City. And if you combine his work with the Lions and Eagles this past year, those team's quarterbacks took aim at the nine-year wide receiver a combined 113 times.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman made a mistake throwing money around last offseason and most of his few free-agent signings, especially running back Jonathan Stewart and offensive guard Patrick Omameh, made little or no impact on the team.

In the aftermath of their decision to trade away superstar receiver Odell Beckham, the Giants have insisted that they have a plan without telling us what that plan is. And Pat Shurmur's offense should be interesting if the line can keep the veteran signal-caller out of harm's way.

The New York Giants split their final eight games this past season after a 1-7 start. This seems like a unusual move for a team that's supposedly in rebuild-mode, and though I don't love the fit, I do love the player. Even though the club has moved on from some key players, the addition of Tate would seem to indicate otherwise.
