Times journalist Paul Joyce reported that Henderson is due to miss the Premier League clash on Sunday, while he also said Jurgen Klopp thinks the midfielder will have to avoid the England squad for their next batch of friendlies.

The Reds splashed out a combined £140 million ($186m) on Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker in 2018 - then world-record fees for a defender and goalkeeper.

City are set to face Tottenham in the quarter-finals after hammering Bundesliga side Schalke 10-2 on aggregate in a one-sided last-16 tie.

"When I spoke with my chairman, CEO, sporting director, the people here working know and they give credit for what we have done in the last two seasons".

Despite just a single point gap at the top of the standings, Manchester City remain -275 favorites to win the league while Liverpool are +225.

Manchester City have been handed the challenge of overcoming English opposition in the quarterfinals for the second successive season, and they will be determined to ensure that Spurs do not inflict the same damage that Liverpool did a year ago.

"Being ahead of City is not that important, but we have a game at the weekend and we want to win that game".

The team has made great strides this year as they chase their first title since 1990 but Klopp feels that even more can come from the Reds in the future.

"It is massive [potential for growth]", said Klopp.

There is guaranteed to be one English team in the semifinals after Tottenham and City were paired together, with the first leg to be played in London. "I think the steps are really obvious but it is still about a natural confidence".

"When you think about how Bayern faced us here - I saw Bayern playing a lot in the last years but I never saw them being that defensive".

"We have a specialist for Porto in our own team in Pep Lijnders being there in the past - and he always speaks with so much respect for that club".

However, things could get a little tight around the midfield as Naby Keita faces a late fitness test in order to prove that he's recovered from the niggle that kept him out of the Bayern Munich game.
