Warren Joins Harris in Fundraising Off O’Rourke’s Candidacy Announcement

Beto O'Rourke, the affable former congressman who rose to political stardom previous year when he almost ousted a Republican senator in traditionally conservative Texas, reportedly said Wednesday he is running for president.

Democrat Beto O'Rourke jumped into the 2020 presidential race Thursday, shaking up the already packed field and pledging to win over voters from across the political spectrum as he tries to translate his sudden celebrity into a formidable White House bid.

According to a Breitbart story posted on February 12, 2019, O'Rourke claims the "Green New Deal" was the "best proposal that I've seen" - ignoring its $93 trillion price tag.

The trip will serve as the first test of whether O'Rourke can carry to the national political stage the pop-star appeal he showed in Texas a year ago, drawing enthusiastic crowds and $80 million in campaign donations.

Beto O'Rourke is the 5th Democrat to proclaim his intention to run for the presidency.

"I am running to serve you as the next president", O'Rourke wrote in a tweet on Thursday, adding that the challenges faced by the United States "are the greatest in living memory". In an encouraging sign, however, a third of respondents said they did not know enough about him to have an opinion.

O'Rourke's announcement comes after a months-long soul-searching mission, during which the three-term Congressmanwantonly bloggedandlivestreamed a dentist appointment. And: "You can probably tell that I want to run", he said.

Klobuchar was not the only 2020 candidate to welcome O'Rourke on Thursday.

And as a congressman, O'Rourke supported a $2 billion military funding increase that benefited a company controlled by another major donor- real estate developer Woody Hunt, who also co-founded and funds an El Paso nonprofit organization that has employed O'Rourke's wife since 2016. the news outlet reported. "I think it's important to have people that are running from different parts of the country".

The former Texas congressman began his campaign by taking his first ever trip to Iowa, the state that kicks off the presidential primary voting.
