Kohli was also picked as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the year, along with Tammy Beaumont, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran and Rory Burns.

Players can only receive Wisden's nod of approval, awarded primarily for feats achieved during the preceding English domestic season, once in their career.

Excluding 1918 and 1919 when schoolboy cricketers were honoured after the end of World War One, only Jack Crawford, who was 19 when he was named as one of the five leading cricketers in 1907, was a younger recipient than Curran.

Curran was named man-of-the-series in Tests against India, earned his ODI debut and... A hat-trick on his second appearance for Kings XI Punjab suggested that may have been money well spent on one of the game's rising stars.

Booth said of Kohli: "Despite finishing on the losing side, India captain Virat Kohli shone with the bat, laying to rest his struggles in England in 2014".

Kohli scored a remarkable 11 centuries in 37 innings, seven of which came on India's tours of South Africa, England and Australia.

He scored more runs than any of his colleagues following his recall in the five-day format, including a maiden hundred against the Indians at Trent Bridge.

The 20-year-old Sam Curran came into limelight with his impressive performances both in domestic with Surrey and on the worldwide stage with England.

Kohli was also named as the leading men´s player in the world for a third straight year.

Mandhana, the Leading Women's Cricketer of the Year, scored 669 and 662 runs in ODIs and T20Is during the course of 2018.

It was a double delight for Kohli, who will lead India's World Cup campaign in England later this year, as he was named the best cricketer in the world for an unprecedented third year in a row.

Indian women opener Smriti Mandhana bagged the women's Leading Cricketer of the Year.
