Nepal 3 Killed In Plane Crash At Lukla Airport One Of The World’s Most Dangerous Airport

At least two persons were killed and five others injured on Sunday after a Summit Air plane collided with a chopper at the Tenzing-Hillary airport in Nepal's Lukla, according to news agency ANI.

Aviation officials said that the cause of the accident was unclear.

"Two people died on the spot and the third one died while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Kathmandu", airport official Pratap Babu Tiwari told Reuters.

Among the dead were the pilot of the plane and two police officers who were near the parked helicopter.

Captain RB Rokaya who was flying the aircraft and Captain Chet Gurung of Manang Air, who was in the helicopter, were also injured in the incident.

The Twin Otter aircraft crashed into the helicopter at Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla, known as the gateway to the world's highest mountain, 125 km (78 miles) northeast of capital Kathmandu.

Civil administrator Narendra Kumar Rama was cited by Stuff as saying that four passengers and a flight attendant on the plane were safe.

Tenzing-Hillary airport is often referred to as the world's most risky airport because of the short runway and hard approach. Only helicopters and small winged aircraft are allowed in this airspace.

In February a helicopter carrying seven people including the country's tourism minister crashed in bad weather in eastern Nepal, killing seven all on board.
