The fight occurred in the first period of Game 3 of the first round playoff matchup between the Capitals and the Hurricanes.

Alexander Ovechkin got in a fight with Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes in their playoff game this evening, and let's just say that the results were not close.

What did you think of Ovechkin's crushing knockout of Andrei Svechnikov? They exchanged several blows before Ovechkin connected with a knockout punch to the right side of Svechnikov's head. He had to be helped off the ice.

Ovechkin challenged Svechnikov to the fight after the 19-year-old cross-checked him several times in front of Washington's net.

It was Ovechkin's fourth career fight and first since 2010, according to HockeyFights.com.

Back in 2010, Ovechkin fought Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky in a December 12 game against the Rangers.

The Hurricanes later announced that Svechnikov wouldn't return to the game due to an upper-body injury. Micheal Ferland also went to the locker room after a hit on forward Tom Wilson. Washington entered the evening up 2-0 in the series. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 National Hockey League draft has played in every game for the Hurricanes this season, scoring 20 goals and 17 assists.
