TSMC Starting Mass Production of Apple A13 Chip This Month

TSMC began early testing and production phase of the Apple A13 chip in April and plans to mass-produce this month. TSMC's N7+ process will be the first to leverage EUV, and TSMC is reserving a further enhanced N7 Pro process for Apple's A13 chips.

Apple should be able to create more distance between the iPhone 11 and the rest of the Android field with the new A13 chip, but it's not clear from the report what sort of capabilities it will have.

Apart from new colours, we've already heard plenty of leaks and predictions around what Apple might do with the follow-up to the iPhone XR.

The new high-end models are code-named D43 and D44, while the update to the iPhone XR is internally dubbed N104, they said. As always we can expect cutting edge performance and improved battery life from the upcoming A13.

The report adds that the third camera on the XS and XS Max sequels will have an ultra wide-angle lens for "larger and more detailed photos". It is reported successors of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will increase in thickness by about half a millimeter, and the rear camera array will be placed in a square area at the upper left corner of the rear.

Interestingly, the third camera will reportedly offer a broader range of zoom, and Apple is apparently working on a feature that will put people back in the frame who have been cut out by accident.

Apple's colourful line of iPhone XR phones could see a slight shift in colour palette come 2019.

iPhone XR will undergo a massive upgrade under the hood this year, so expect it to get the same A13 processor as the other iPhones, but at the same time, it should also get two cameras instead of one on the back. Like with the existing iPhone XS, that second camera is expected to be an optical zoom lens.
