World Of Warcraft Classic Release Date Announced, Beta Starting This Week

From launch, all WoW subscribers will have access to Classic, so you might as well take it for a spin. Blizzard announced the release date in a lengthy news post that also spells out a range of closed beta and stress-test periods over the next three months. However, ahead of its imminent release, the team at Blizzard are offering a closed beta test for WoW Classic, and we've got all the details players need to jump in on the action. Relive classic moments such as when Onyxia "spread terror from her lair", in Duskwallow Marsh, when Leeroy Jenkins did his thing, and more.

Classic's arrival is part of Blizzard's celebration of 15 years of WoW (and 25 years of Warcraft).

WoW Classic is a "vanilla" version of the once super popular MMORPG launching on August 27. Subsequent stress tests will run regularly from May through July. Players who opt-in for the testing on their account manager page and have an active subscription will be randomly selected for the beta starting on May 15.

The release date for the WoW Classic beta has been set for tomorrow, May 15.

"We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community".

World of Warcraft Classic, an instance of how the game was at launch before any of its numerous expansions launched, will be releasing on August 26-27 depending on region. You'll be able to create your character a bit earlier than that on August 13.

Much like the developers of RuneScape (Jagex) learned back in 2013 when they launched "Old School RuneScape" (a nostalgic, 2007-themed version of the browser MMO), World of Warcraft developer Blizzard has found that there's a significant demand for a similar "Classic" server.
