Patrick Peterson Suspended Six Games for Violating NFL's Performance-Enhancing Drug Policy

Immediate and long-term ramifications of Patrick Peterson's six-game suspension

Cardinals star cornerback Patrick Peterson is suspended the first six games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy, ESPN.com reports.

And, despite the repeated trade rumors and the suspension, Peterson insisted that his relationship with general manager Steve Keim and the Cardinals organization is in a good place. Standard NFL protocol usually calls for a four-game suspension for first-time offenders, which Peterson is.

Peterson is an eight-time Pro Bowler.

After Peterson backed off his midseason trade demand a year ago, he said he wanted to follow in Larry Fitzgerald's footsteps as the face of the franchise. He is one of his generation's best corners. If you test positive for both of those things, it's six. A blemish such as this comes as a major shock as Peterson has also never missed a single game in his career, a string of 128 games all with the Cardinals organization. His suspension might be the reason that hasn't happened yet. That streak will end this year.

Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson took a jab at Tom Brady during the Deflategate ordeal.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning that Peterson had been suspended. "I communicated with Patrick". Arizona drafted him with the No. 5 pick in 2011 out of LSU.

The six games Peterson is expected to miss will be the Week 1 opener against the Detroit Lions, followed by the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons.

There is little doubt that Murphy, who Arizona had a top-five grade on heading into the NFL Draft, will at least get regular run in nickel packages.
