Grumpy Cat Internet Star Dies at the Age of 7

Grumpy Cat, known for her permanent grim expression of contempt, passed away Tuesday at the age of seven.

Before long, her disgruntled expression - which is said to be a side effect of both her underbite and feline dwarfism - had been seen by over one million people, with many claiming that the miserable-looking moggy had been Photoshopped.

"Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough". She rose to fame in 2012 after Bundesen's brother Bryan uploaded a photo of her to Reddit, claiming a 'best cat on the internet' award the following year and raking in money for her owner. They captioned the post, "Some days are grumpier than others..." "Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere".

Tabatha Bundesen and her cat, Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, pose for a photograph on Friday April 4, 2014 in NY.

Despite her "grumpy" appearance and "Grumpy Cat" nickname Tardar Sauce was fairly good-natured.

Famed for her sarcastic, cynical images and memes, the famous cat had racked up a fortune of £64million after appearing in adverts, in gifts and even releasing her own book and film.

Grumpy Cat had more than 8 million followers on Facebook, 2.5 million on Instagram and more than 1.5 million on Twitter. So, although the face that launched a thousand memes is gone, it's likely the cat's image isn't going anywhere. Then in 2013, Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza gave voice to Grumpy Cat in the Lifetime holiday movie Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.

The cat's image was hot property: past year, a California jury awarded Bundesen's company, Grumpy Cat Limited, damages of $710,001 in a lawsuit against a beverage company that had created an unauthorized line of "Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee" and which was selling Grumppuccino tee-shirts without sharing profits.
