Speaking after his selection, he said: "Brexit is a cause close to my heart, it's all about democracy".

He called on the party to return to its traditional values of low tax, strong policing and not to follow the policies of the left-wing Labour Party.

Jeremy Corbyn has sent a letter to the Prime Minister where he said they have "gone as far as they can" due to "the increasing weakness and instability" of her premiership. He later told reporters there was no chance of getting even part of a Brexit deal ratified by the end of July.

An end to the cross-party talks and the prime minister's imminent departure blow wide open the possibilities for what Brexit will eventually look like. The talks began after British lawmakers rejected May's divorce deal with the European Union three times.

But the Conservatives and left-of-centre Labour differ on how close an economic relationship to seek with the bloc after the United Kingdom leaves. The current deadline is October 31.

That announcement was an attempt to get more lawmakers to side with the deal, but it now seems that whatever happens, a new prime minister will be in place by the deadline for the U.K.to leave the European Union on October 31 of this year.

That deadlock deepened this week with the breakdown of the cross-party talks and the intensifying pressure on Mrs May from within her Conservative Party to quit. Former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who campaigned for Brexit and resigned a year ago over May's handling of negotiations, said on Thursday that he would be a candidate when May steps down.

Theresa May, who plans to make a fourth and likely final effort to win parliamentary approval for her Brexit deal, has been laying out potential timeframes for her resignation.

Pro-Brexit Conservatives are furious that Britain has not yet left the European Union, nearly three years after voters backed Brexit in a referendum.

"Of course I'm going to go for it", the former foreign minister, ex-mayor of London and leading Brexit campaigner told a business event in Manchester, northwest England, the BBC and Sky News reported.

"We have agreed that she and I will meet following the second reading of the Bill to agree a timetable for the election of a new leader", Brady said, adding that the conversation would take place whether the bill was passed or not.

May plans to make a fourth attempt to get lawmakers' backing for Brexit terms by putting a withdrawal agreement bill to a vote in early June.

"Boris Johnson is the only candidate who increases likelihood to vote Conservative among both our 2017 voters & people planning to vote (for the newly formed) Brexit Party".

Boris Johnson is the clear favourite to be the next prime minister, according to the first poll of Tory members since the start of the leadership contest.

Pro-Brexit politicians think the withdrawal agreement keeps Britain bound too closely to the EU's rules, while pro-Europeans think it relinquishes numerous benefits of European Union membership.

Referencing those developments, Corbyn wrote that, "the position of the government has become ever more unstable and its authority eroded" stating the party would continue to oppose May's deal.
