Some units' screens cracked or were damaged because reviewers peeled off the protective layer above the screen.

During the press conference for Galaxy Fold, Samsung had mentioned that the plastic layer must not be removed but since it wasn't attached to the end of the frame around the display, some reviewers apparently confused it for a protector. Apparently, the gap between the top and bottom parts of the hinge was a problem because the exposed area couldn't prevent dust and debris from coming in and this proved detrimental to the OLED display. According to a recent Korean report, Samsung is now testing out improvements for the design issues and the exact date for the June launch should soon be announced.

Carrying a price tag of $1,980, the Galaxy Fold is no ordinary phone and is more of a luxury device.

In a statement to the United States media, Samsung said their initial findings showed that the reported issues could be due to the impact on the exposed areas at the top and bottom of the hinge, besides a broken substance inside the device. At that point, Samsung did mention what the issue was but didn't say anything about how it would be addressing them. Gizmodo reached out to Samsung to see if it would confirm any of these details, but Samsung declined to comment. It previously told us it had "reviewed the defect", and now it is working to fix it, according to a new report. In response to a question about whether the Fold could launch in May, Koh responded with a coy, "We will not be too late". This discount will take the form of monthly bill credits. The report also adds that Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Fold in June but it's not yet confirmed and the company could change the launch timeline. It either wasn't as fast back then, or we didn't get consistent-enough signal to reach the heights we're seeing now.
