Tony Parker has retired from the NBA after 18 seasons

Here's how people reacted on social media to Parker's announcement.

Six-time NBA All-Star point guard Tony Parker has retired following an 18-year career, he told ESPN's The Undefeated.

Additionally, he told The Undefeated, he'll open an worldwide school in Lyon, France, called the Tony Parker Adequat Academy. "As a player, it was great to win championship, and now as an owner, when you build from scratch everything, I'm happier for them. And so I knew that the time changed, and I was being very nostalgic", Parker said. Parker helped capture four championships with the Spurs while becoming the first European player to win NBA Finals MVP in 2007.

And now that he's got more free time, Parker is looking forward to doing "a lot of stuff".

Parker stated 1,151 games regular season games and averaged 15.5 points and 5.6 assists per game.

Last summer, Parker signed a 2-year, $10 million contract to continue his career with the Hornets after it was clear the Spurs meant to move on from the 37-year-old. We had a great run and can't wait to beat you up on tennis and spending more time together'.

Parker, who was chosen with the 28th pick of the 2001 draft, said his career had exceeded his wildest dreams.

Internationally, Parker represented France on nine occasions, including at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. "It was just nice to share that moment with them". He is now the owner and president of ASVEL, a French men's and women's professional basketball club based in Lyon.

Given their track record an enormous impact on the National Basketball Association, there's no debate that Wade, Nowitzki, and Parker will be first-ballot Hall of Famers representing the stacked Class of 2023. "I worked a lot, enormously received, it was an incredible adventure!" By retiring, he winds up two seasons shy of that goal.

"I'm at peace with it", Parker said. But at the same time, now I don't see any reason to play 20 seasons. I had a good season with the Hornets, and I was healthy.

Announcing his retirement following the Mavericks' final home game this season, Nowitzki will go down as one of the greatest shooting bigs in basketball history.
