The pre-tournament favorites and defending champions took it right to Thailand in the opening minutes, with a Morgan goal ruled out for offside inside of 10 minutes.

"She got five goals?!" "Oh my god, I thought she got four". No World Cup team, men or women, had ever scored 13 goals before.

The United States held a modest 3-0 lead through the first half.

So, it took 13 years of World Cup play for the men's team to do what the women's team did in one day. "Every goal matters in this tournament and that's what we were working on this game". She was the first to get the USA on the board, scoring in the 12th minute and then again in the 53rd minute.

The easy answer is no. That's were a number of United States football pundits have an issue following America's 13-0 rout over Thailand in their opening game of the Women's World Cup.

Rapinoe concurred with her teammate. Morgan put her arm around Thailand's Miranda Nild, who was wiping away tears on the pitch.

Srathongvian said soccer in Thailand is still growing and there is a limited pool of players to draw from. She joins US legend Michelle Akers as the highest single-game scorer in Women's World Cup history. She still has two games to showcase herself, to get some goals.

"She's a quality player and to stay encouraged through this tournament, because she's living out a dream that most girls and women don't get to".

Sam Mewis, who started in midfield after Becky Sauerbrunn was held out for precautionary reasons with an injury, started things off in the 50th minute before Morgan, Lavelle and Mewis all added their second goals to make it 7-0.

"I give Thailand a lot of credit", Mewis said.

The U.S. will next face Chile on Sunday, while Thailand will be up against Sweden. We got a lot of attacks and I think we were really clinical in the number of attacks that we did get. As for the USWNT, they'll move on with nothing to apologize for after a record-setting night. "That's what we were told before the game and that's why we had to keep going"'.
