Extremely Good Netflix Series 'Russian Doll' Is Copping An Unlikely Season 2

Russian Doll Season 2 is Officially Happening at Netflix

The new season will have eight episodes.

The first season of the showRussian Doll stunned fans and received rave reviews, with the weird comedy scoring 100 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is usually a solid gold stamp of approval.

Despite the perfectly clean, novel, and circuitous ending of Russian Doll's eighth and final episode, the critically acclaimed Netflix dark comedy was destined for the Big Little Lies treatment.

On Wednesday, the show confirmed on its Twitter account that Netflix had renewed it for a second season.

Russian Doll's creators initially mapped out three seasons for the show. "So very much yes, I would love to do [a second season]".

"Russian Doll" stars Lyonne as Nadia, who - on her 36th birthday - keeps dying and then waking up in the bathroom at her birthday party.

No official date for the next season has been announced by Netflix, so we could be waiting months, if not years for this to come through. She said that she took "a bit of relief in the algorithm", as it meant the show was able to target those she knew would be interested in the show's quirkier themes, rather than catering for a broader or more mainstream audience. The first season works so perfectly that the idea of bringing it back for more potentially seems like flirting with disaster, and there are plenty of questions about where exactly the series will go after its satisfying season one finale.

For those who've seen the show, you can tell that focus paid off: Russian Doll is unashamedly odd, continually taking the story in unexpected directions, while sticking to snappy 30-minute episodes flawless for the Netflix platform.
