In a Thursday Instagram post, the 37-year-old actress responded to news that she had lobbied with known anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. against a California state pro-vaccine bill. If the bill were to pass, it would reduce medical exemptions from vaccinations that don't have approval from state public health officers.

According to the Los Angeles Times, officials estimate that about 40% of the 11,500 medical exemptions requested each year would be denied under the bill, which is now under review.

"I am not against vaccinations", Biel wrote on Instagram Thursday morning. The bill will strengthen rules governing children in public and private schools and vaccinations.

Biel also posed alongside a string of politicians, including Assemblyman Tom Lackey, a Republican representing California's 36th District. Kennedy confirmed as much in a phone call with the outlet, though he wouldn't go so far as to outright say that Biel was a part of his movement.

He said he would not label Biel "anti-vaxx", calling that term "pharmaceutical propaganda" and "a lie", adding instead: "I would say that she was for safe vaccines and for medical freedom".

In a series of nine photos together, Robert F. Kennedy's son gave a peek at his day with the 7th Heaven actress as they met with California lawmakers like Autumn Burke to lobby against SB-276. Not because I don't believe in vaccinations, but because I believe in giving doctors and the families they treat the ability to decide what's best for their patients and the ability to provide that treatment.

As noted by The Daily Beast, vaccination advocates claim SB 276 "will have minimal impact on those with valid reasons for exemption, citing medical authorities like the bill's prominent co-sponsors: the California Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, California".

Kennedy told The Daily Beast that he opposes the political red tape that he and Biel believe would force children to receive vaccinations.

Biel and husband Justin Timberlake were reported to have avoided vaccinating their children, but have never publicly spoken of their opposition.
