President Trump on Thursday announced that White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders would be leaving her position at the end of June.

He also thanked for her "for a job well done!"

Before joining the Trump campaign Sanders managed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's 2016 presidential campaign.

There is no word on who will succeed Sanders as press secretary.

Trump announced the news on Twitter. The president called her a "warrior" and encouraged her to run for governor of Arkansas. Sanders previously served as the deputy White House press secretary.

Sources close to the White House have said that Sanders' has privately discussed running for the office herself, according to CNN.

White House press briefings became less and less frequent occasions under Sanders.

"I've loved every minute, even the hard minutes", Sanders said at the event, calling her role the "most special experience" of her life second only to being a mom of three. She faced online harassment, was ridiculed by late night comedians and was asked to leave a Virginia restaurant.

Ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, Sanders facilitated dozens of interviews and press gaggles with Trump, saying he was the best spokesman for his administration.

"Frankly, I think my credibility is probably higher than the media's", she said". He added, "If we can get her to run for the governor of Arkansas, I think she'll do very well".
