Konami enters the tiny console business with the TurboGrafx-16 Mini

A lot of companies have released bite-sized plug-and-play versions of their 90s consoles now. Despite these, however, the system actually ran on an 8-bit CPU. Japan and Europe also get a different design for the system's case itself, modeled after the squarish PC Engine, while U.S. customers will get the larger, rectangular TurboGrafx design. Konami just announced the TurboGrafx-16 Mini, which marks a return of the 1989 console which debuted in the U.S. alongside the Sega Genesis.

NEC's console was not a huge success in the West, and it never came close to wresting control of the video games market from Nintendo and Sega. 6 games have been announced for the console, with a promise of more to come at a later date.

Right now. Konami is current holder of the rights to the PC Engine....the TurboGrafx's original name before a marketing team decided it needed to be made clearer how turbo its graphics were. This resulted in a number of classic games being released for it, and its later CD add-on, over in Japan. This includes the ability to save game states, called Quick Save here, as well as various display modes including those that replicate scanlines. Which is sold separately, of course.

It's set to return in the form of the TurboGrafx-16 mini, a new compact model that comes preloaded with a selection of popular titles!

There is now no confirmed retail price nor release date announced yet for the gaming system.

On top of that, the company is making three different versions, to coincide with the three separate iterations of the TurboGrafx16 which was also known as the PC Engine.
