Dodgeball’ & ‘Men In Black’ Actor Rip Torn Has Passed Away Aged 88

Rip Torn, the Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor known for his work on The Larry Sanders Show and in the Men in Black movies, has died.

Born Elmore Rual Torn Jr.in 1931, the celebrated actor's career spanned sixty years and included appearances on television, in films and in Broadway and off-Broadway theatrical productions.

Torn's wife Amy and his daughters Katie and Angelica were by his side at the time of his death, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Rip won an Emmy for his portrayal of the deliciously devious producer Artie on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show.

Among his acting credits include The Men In Black film series, Disney's Hercules and a number of episodes of sitcom 30 Rock. He then went on to establish an outstanding career in film and TV, garnering a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Marsh Turner in the 1984 drama Cross Creek.

That show and that role led to a late life resurgence, with nearly 200 film and TV credits to his name at the time of his death.

He is also survived by his sister Patricia Alexander and his four grandchildren: Elijah, Tana, Emeris and Hannah.
