The National Weather Service classified the line of storms in the nation's capital as a once-in-100-year event.

Within a matter of moments, the rain led to headache-inducing traffic, before completely shutting down traffic lanes in various areas with high water levels.

It is hard to predict exactly when the rains will come, but National Weather service meteorologists say the peak hours are likely in the afternoon and evening.

In some areas, emergency responders were called out to conduct rescues. Some people were stranded in cars and several high water rescues were reported.

Roughly two dozen people were pulled to safety from their vehicles in Maryland's Montgomery County.

Images from authorities in Frederick show flooded roadways and standing water in different parts of the county.

Flash Flood Watch to include a portion of central Pennsylvania, including the following areas, Columbia, Dauphin, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Snyder, and Union.

Even the White House was not spared. Airports and rail networks were also hit, causing delays.

Videos of the flooding around the National Mall surfaced across social media.

Severe weather is not expected in the weekend's storms.
