The 10 MLAs had crossed over to the BJP on Wednesday.

The Congress in Goa is now left with only five lawmakers in the 40-member state assembly, facing a near-similar fate of its counterpart in Karnataka.

After the 2017 polls, a hung Assembly emerged, with the Congress winning 17 seats and the BJP 13.

Earlier, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with two of the MLAs met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament.

The lawmakers who broke away are Babu Kavalekar, Babush Monserratte, his wife Jennifer Monserrate, Tony Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Clafasio, Wilfred De Sa, Nilkant Halankar and Isidore Fernandes.

The "get-together" comes amid rumblings in a section of Kamal Nath ministry over "outside interference" in their respective ministries as well as the current crisis in the JD (S)-Congress coalition government in Karnataka. Besides, there are five MLAs of the Congress and one each of the NCP and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party in the House. The biggest setback came in Karnataka, where the party is on the verge of losing its government. He knew how the government was formed. State BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa has even petitioned the governor in this regard and sought his intervention.

Sawant arrived in the national capital with these MLAs and met Shah and BJP working president J P Nadda. While the three-member strength of Goa Forward was critical to the survival of the coalition in the past, the fresh infusion of Congress MLAs into the BJP makes their support irrelevant. "Till today we have withstood all their assaults, this time the situation is more serious than previous attempts we concede that but after considering all pros and cons, the chief minister, the deputy chief minister and the ministers have resolved to face it bravely and withstand it unitedly", he added. "We will take the decision when we reach back in Goa", he added.

Since last month, the Congress saw its MLAs quitting in hordes in Telangana, Karnataka and Goa.

Chandrakant Kavlekar, who was the leader of the opposition in the assembly before he spearheaded a coup in his own party and joined the BJP along with nine other MLAs, told reporters that they wanted development work in their constituencies.

He went on to say that it is "unnecessary" to give importance to Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh's "casual meeting" with BJP leaders at the new building of KK guesthouse, managed by KSTDC, which comes under his portfolio.
