By the Numbers: The case for Nurse as a WNBA All-Star

As a result, Thibault will guide the All-Star team captained by Las Vegas' A'ja Wilson, the All-Star starter with the second-most votes among fans.

The WNBA announced on Thursday the 10 starters for the July 27 All-Star game in Las Vegas.

Wilson was the only rookie named to last year's All-Star Game and wound up coming off the bench, scoring 18 points and earning some MVP buzz. In 2018, she helped lead Washington to a 22-12 record and a WNBA Finals appearance.

Other frontcourt players include Wilson's teammate in Las Vegas' Liz Cambage, Phoenix's Brittney Griner, Seattle's Natasha Howard and Connecticut's Jonquel Jones.

The 23-year-old second year guard joins Kayla McBride of the Las Vegas Aces, Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm and Chelsea Gray of the Los Angeles Sparks as backcourt starters.

Delle Donne and Griner were chosen for their sixth All-Star Game.

Thibault is coaching his third All-Star Game.

"It's an honour to not only represent the New York Liberty but also my home country of Canada in the 2019 WNBA all-star game", Nurse said. The latter group will be determined by WNBA coaches and be announced on July 15. Fan votes were worth, collectively, 50%, while player votes were worth 25%, as were media votes. Coaches can vote for all but their own players, selecting three guards, five frontcourt players and four others at any position. She has started all 15 games for NY this season. In 2017, she made her All-Star debut and earned WNBA Most Improved Player honors.

Bill Laimbeer of Las Vegas and Washington's Mike Thibault were named head coaches for the game. Washington (9-5, .643) is guaranteed to have the second-best record through July 12. Laimbeer is a two-time WNBA Coach of the Year (2003, 2015), while Thibault is a three-time victor (2006, 2008, 2013). One year later, he led the East to a 98-82 win over the West in the 2006 All-Star Game in NY.
