Ten years ago, Raimi had planned for original "Spider-Man" headliner Tobey Maguire to suit up as the web crawler for a fourth time and face off against John Malkovich as the Vulture and Bruce Campbell as Mysterio, who is now being played in "Far From Home" by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Speaking to Yahoo, he explained: "I think about it all the time".

Although Raimi's vision isn't happening anytime soon, it looks like the new Spider-Man movies have at least succeeded in introducing the villains that were supposed to be in the fourth movie. So when you have an unborn one, you can't help but think what might have been.

J.K. called me and said, 'Hey, they're talking about reprising my role.' I said, 'With all my greatest blessings, ' 'cause I love Spider-Man and I love J.K. and I'd love to see more of him.
But I try to focus on what will be, and not look into the past.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, when Sam was asked about Simmons' cameo in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the filmmaker sounded beyond ecstatic. If Far From Home doesn't reach that figure, full control of the web-slinger will revert back to Sony.

Raimi, who is best known for horror cult classics including the Evil Dead franchise, is now promoting new thriller/disaster, Crawl. "No one had really done the Jaws of alligators, and that excited Sam and it excited our director, Alex, who said [that] when I sent him the script, he read the log line and he was like, 'I'm in!'"
