Dharmasena came under the spotlight after he gave a decision against Jason Roy in the Cricket World Cup semifinal.

Jason Roy of England not agreeing to the Umpire Decision during ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final between England and Australia at the Edgbaston on July 11, 2019 in Birmingham, England.

The Surrey opener had made 85 to set England well on their way to a victory target of 224 against the reigning champions when Australia appealed for a catch down the legside by wicketkeeper Alex Carey off fast bowler Pat Cummins.

Roy requested a review but England had already squandered their lone review of the innings with an unsuccessful attempt to overturn fellow opener Jonny Bairstow's lbw dismissal for 34.

In addition to the 30 per cent fine, two demerit points have been added to Roy's disciplinary record.

After the game, Roy was found guilty of breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

But match bans only kick in when a player collects four demerit points in total leaving Roy, a key figure in Eoin Morgan's side, available to feature as England bid to win the World Cup for the first time. "He won't face any suspension".

"The dissent he showed was nearly soccer-like, up, remonstrating with the umpires", Cowan said on ABC Grandstand's latest World Cup podcast.

Dharmasena has won the ICC's Umpire of the Year award on two occasions - in 2012 and 2018.

"If you had offered us the position to play in a final the day after we were knocked out of 2015 World Cup, I would have laughed at you", the Irishman said.

Roy admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

Australian Rod Tucker will be in the third umpire's chair and Pakistan's Aleem Dar will be the fourth official.

Dharmasena will be joined by Marais Erasmus, who was also alongside him in Thursday's semi-final.
