Brit holidaymakers were furious as all flights at Leeds Bradford airport got grounded. They said that the airport was closed for 45 minutes and a flight was diverted to Manchester Airport.

While Leeds Bradford is a relatively smaller regional airport - the 15th busiest in the UK, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority - the Friday afternoon delays came in the midst of peak summer travel season.

The drones sighting comes after hundreds of flights in and out of Gatwick Airport were cancelled between December 19 an 21 causing havoc.

Up to three Jet2 flights were affected by the incident.

This affected flights for around 140,000 passengers.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: 'At around 2.03pm a report was received of a drone flying in Horsforth, near to the Old ball roundabout.

"Flights were temporarily grounded at Leeds Bradford Airport as a precaution".

It remains unknown how many drones were senate the airport.
