Dak Prescott Turns Down $30M Per Year From Cowboys

Dak Prescott has set a high price tag as he negotiates a new contract with the Cowboys.

Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Charles Robinson said on the latest edition of the NFL Podcast that if the Cowboys forced Prescott to bet on himself - i.e. he doesn't get a new deal before this season ends - and Prescott wins big - i.e. Dallas wins the Super Bowl - his agent would use $40 million as a starting point next year.

Sources told NFL Network's Jane Slater that the Dallas Cowboys gun-slinger was looking for a deal that paid $40M annually.

After all, Prescott plays quarterback, but it's Ezekiel Elliott who stirs the drink that is the Cowboys offense, and it was the arrival of Amari Cooper last season that broke Prescott from his post-rookie-revelation doldrums.

On Aug. 12, it was reported that Prescott, also drafted in 2016 - and due for a new contract in 2020 as a non-first round pick - was offered a contract worth more than $30 million.

The highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League in terms of average annual value is the Seattle Seahawks' Russell Wilson. Dallas isn't going to give Dak $40 million, and the fourth-year pro knows that. That would mean more than $30 million per season for Prescott.

Dallas fans can say whatever they want about believing that Prescott is the better quarterback, but Goff's numbers from the previous two seasons alone make him seem like the better option under center, meaning he would clearly deserve to make more money.

Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers and Carson Wentz rank below Wilson in average annual salary.

Prescott is 32-16 as a starter in the regular season, with 10,876 passing yards, 67 touchdowns, 25 interceptions and a 96.0 passer rating, so he is vastly underpaid as it stands now.
