You would think that by now there would be a popular subscription service that provides shoes for the youth but, leave it up to Nike to create the first-ever children's sneaker club. The program will send a new pair of sneakers at regular intervals, with customers choosing from three tiers of subscription services: quarterly, bimonthly or monthly basis, with monthly fees of $20, $30 or $50, respectively. It grew to 10,000 members, and Cobban said Nike believes it's ready to unveil the service more broadly. Yahoo Finance's Myles Udland, Emily McCormick, and Ines Ferre discuss. Kids' sneakers typically retail for $60, so monthly subscribers will save about $10 a pair.

Perhaps more importantly for Nike, its kids' sneaker club allows the company to test out the subscription market and potentially apply it to its adult shoppers. There are more than 100 different sneaker styles, ranging across the spectrum of performance and sportswear. Or they can send it back and the service will send a new pair of their choosing.

Similar to other recent initiatives - like Nike Fit - the Adventure Club was birthed out of a recent partnership the brand sealed with kids sneakers subscription start up Easy Kicks in 2017.

"In providing footwear, we're always trying to answer, 'What do kids want?'" Dominique Shortell, director of product experience and retention for Nike Adventure Club, said in a statement.

This is the first of its kind, and it serves kids through sizes 4C to 7Y.

In addition to a pair of shoes, the subscription box will come with adventure guides that contain outdoor games and activities that parents can do with their kids. It is also collaborating with KaBoom, a national nonprofit focused on giving kids of all backgrounds the opportunity to play.

Nike is also hoping to appeal to consumers on a convenience front.
