Jio GigaFiber service to launch on 5 Sept 2019

Ambani said that since its announcement a year ago, Jio received over 15 million registrations from almost 1,600 towns.

Here, we're highlighting everything around Jio GigaFiber that grabbed eyeballs during the AGM 2019.

"Jio Fiber Services to be launched on commercial basis on 5 September 2019 - on the third anniversary of Jio's launch".

Apart from Blockchain, Jio is planning to deliver Virtual and Mixed Reality content by setting up a pan-India Edge Computing and Content Distribution network again starting with tens of thousands of nodes.

Jio's pan India Narrowband Internet of THings (NBIoT) will launch on 1 January 2020 residential, industrial and public devices. Jio GigaFiber will start with 100 MBPS monthly plans. However, he did mention that there will be plans up to 1Gbps as well. The pricing will range between Rs 700 per month to Rs 10,000 per month. Jio has not specified which OTT plans it will offer as yet. However, details about the plan are yet to be revealed.

The Jio STB includes subscriptions to many, popular OTT streaming services. Ambani also announced the launch of a special unlimited monthly global calling plan (to the United States and Canada only) that costs only INR 500.

Price: The JioFiber plan will be available in two different kinds of packages - monthly and annual. Jio has not detailed much about this service. Jio will also give a 4K TV for no additional cost to users along with a 4K set-top box. Another big feature of Reliance Jio set-top-box is that it supports online gaming.

"This will be at par with the leading gaming platforms globally", asserted Akash Ambani, who briefly played Federation Internationale de Football Association 19 on stage to emphasise on multiplayer support on the Jio Set-Top Box.

Preferential rates while upgrading phones: Postpaid Plus subscribers will able to get preferential rates while upgrading their smartphones and may a contact would be in place. Also, it is said to have built-in graphics.

The Jio Set-Top Box is touted to enable gameplay in 4K and offer a "zero-latency gaming experience" through Jio Fiber network. Moreover, Reliance Jio is working with leading game publishers, including Gameloft, Tencent, and Microsoft.

Under this plan, "premium Jio Fiber subscribers will be able to watch new movies in their living rooms on the same day these movies are released in theaters", Ambani said. Jio calls this its "First Day First Show" feature which will be available during mid-2020.
