Here’s when heat index may top 105° this week

A heat advisory goes into effect this afternoon for most of the Kansas City metro area. The advisory affects Lampasas, Coryell, Hamilton and other nearby counties. Heat index values reach 105 midday and top off near 110 by afternoon and stay near 105 to the evening. "We're at the peak heating of the summer".

The heat is expected to crank-up even higher this week.

The National Weather Service posted an Excessive Heat Warning for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence Counties in Alabama through Tuesday evening.

Dunn added that people should be cautious about outdoor activity.

Doctors say don't underestimate the power of a hot day. "You've got to stop and take breaks and drink water". Rockwood Superintendent Mark Miles says that administrators will be monitoring the heat levels this week to make sure their students stay safe.

The heat index in Muscle Shoals topped out at 112 degrees, according to the weather service, making it the hottest on record since July 14, 1980. Additionally, a weakening front will approach the region on Wednesday and the resulting lift into the atmosphere will create scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms-a few of which could be strong. Some of these storms have the possibility to have strong winds and unsafe lightning.

Thunderstorms may linger in portions of Central Texas through Thursday, the statement read. And, NEVER, leave children or pets in a closed-up vehicle!

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside", NWS officials continued.

Heat exhaustion and heat strokes could result.
