National Football League upholding Golden Tate's four-game suspension

Giants wide receiver Golden Tate is supposed to replace Odell Beckham

New York Giants receiver Golden Tate lost his appeal over a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's Performance Enhancing Drug policy.

The decision by an independent arbiter was announced Tuesday and means the 10-year-veteran will miss the first four games of the regular season, starting with Dallas on September 8.

He is entering his first season with NY, which will now be without its key acquisition as it works through its offense.

Unfortunately for Tate, the National Football League has a zero-tolerance policy for PEDs which states, "Players are responsible for what is in their bodies and a positive test will not be excused because a player was unaware that he was taking a prohibited substance".

Tate released a new statement following his appeal getting denied. Unfortunately the National Football League stood by their no tolerance policy, which I hope one day to help have a part in reforming, so no other player has to go through this situation. He noted the treatment was for a fertility issue and it will have no effect on this season. Tate wrote in a previous statement he stopped taking the prescription when he learned an ingredient was on the NFL's banned substance list.

"This past April, during the off-season, my wife and I chose to see a specialist for fertility planning", the statement from Tate read.

According to Tate via Twitter, he claims to have taken a drug on the NFL's list of banned substances when he and his wife were working through fertility treatment. The 30-year-old receiver said he "immediately discontinued use" and reported the situation before the failed test was confirmed.
