It's one of American literature's best-loved novels, and now Little Women is getting its eighth, yes eighth, film adaptation. But the idea of Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig infusing her style, sense and sensibility into it, and gathering a quality cast of young actors, is certainly appealing.

Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Laura Dern and more have teamed up with Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig for what promises to be the ideal Christmas Day activity this year. Greta Gerwig's adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's iconic 1868 novel that charts the lives of four sisters from childhood to adulthood.

And then there's Saoirse Ronan's Jo. Judging by the trailer, it will be be a gorgeous and sparkling gem of a film, full of the heart and fire that has made the book beloved by readers. Little Women paints a complex, rich portrait of its quartet of female protagonists, and the trailer gives a glimpse into how that portrait will translate to the screen.

Meanwhile, according to Coral, The Irishman is at 8-1 for the top Oscar while Cats, A Beautiful Day in The Neighbourhood, 1917, The Laundromat and The Lighthouse are all on 10-1.

Christmas has come early for fans of the March family, whose travails are chronicled in the Civil War-set coming of age story Little Women.
