Jordan said in a statement Tuesday on Twitter through his spokeswoman Estee Portnoy that he's "devastated" at the destruction in the Bahamas, adding "my heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and to those who have lost loved ones".

Abaco and Grand Bahama were severely destructed by Hurricane Dorian, and people from these islands are still quickly evacuating.

Dorian struck the United States coastline as a Category 2 hurricane, causing widespread flooding and power outages along the Carolinas - and later knocking out power to more than 500,000 in eastern Canada.

What is on the new list?

Carl Smith, a spokesman for the country's National Emergency Management Agency, said he expected the list to shrink as the names are checked.

Thousands of people are in shelters on the islands and officials have warned the number of dead is likely to rise substantially.

"At this point there are approximately 2,500 on the Bahamian government register", Mr Smith said at a press conference.

What is happening on the ground?

"The people there want to help the people in the Bahamas", Samad said. About 5,000 have been evacuated from the hardest-hit islands, which include Abaco, and another 6,000 to 7,000 remain there, according to a report shared by the UN World Food Program on Wednesday.

Hicks said the island where he lives, New Providence, which is coterminous with the capital city of Nassau, escaped major damage.

NHK team landed on Great Abaco Island on Tuesday, where damage is particularly serious.

"It made landfall with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour and gusts of 220 miles per hour, which ties it for the highest sustained wind landfall on record - the 1935 Labor Day hurricane", he said.

Dorian scythed through Great Abaco, devastating Marsh Harbour, then moved on to Grand Bahama where it lingered for nearly two days before moving north.

Matt Hicks, an Apollo native who has lived in the Bahamas for more than four years, said he agrees with the country's Ministry of Tourism that, well, tourism is among the best ways to help.
