She died at the age of 47 the same year, due to an accidental overdose, and her drug and alcohol issues are covered in the movie.

It's a process that included a bit of experimentation to find what is "recognizable in terms of Judy's features, in defining characteristics, in terms of her body language and her performance language, and what we recognize as iconic and her physicality", Zellweger explained at the Toronto International Film Festival.

ET's Keltie Knight spoke with Zellweger at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival - where she's supporting her upcoming Judy Garland biopic, Judy - and the actress opened up about the hilariously freaky moment when pieces of her prosthetic nose apparently broke off on Wittrock's face.

"I'm sad to say that I took her for granted, like a lot of people you love in your life, she was just always there", Zellweger told reporters of what she learned playing Garland. Anyway, here's my stop, ' " Zellweger went on. "But you sight correct admire yourself!' And I acknowledged, 'Yeah, it's comical how that works, isn't it?'" So I get up and I stand next to the door waiting for it to open and the man is still talking about how stupid I am. "So you kind of feel a sense of responsibility to represent that as authentically as possible", Zellweger said.

"All of our affection and admiration for Judy sort of felt very alive in that moment, and thinking of what that song meant to her at that time in her life, and the nostalgia we all sort of feel about it now", Zellweger added.

The vulnerable Bridget Jones actress acknowledged experiences akin to this one had been "momentarily... moderately painful".

'From kind of that point on until the end, I very rarely saw this Renée Zellweger, you know? "It just visits my life here and there and I'm not really privy on that stuff until someone sends it to me. I have other things to do", she joked.

Critics are over the rainbow for Renee Zellweger again.

But beyond recreating the Hollywood icon's signature looks, Zellweger, does her own singing in the movie.
