Utilizing bovine cells harvested on Earth, scientists grew them into small-scale muscle tissue utilizing a 3D bioprinter beneath managed micro-gravity circumstances.

The experiment was led by Israeli startup Aleph Farms with support from Russian biotech company 3D Bioprinting Solutions and USA -based Meal Source Technologies and Finless Foods.

Final month, a collaboration amongst 4 firms from Israel, Russia and the US produced the primary ever "space beef steak" contained in the Worldwide House Station.

Researchers said the project was carried out to show how lab-grown meat can be cultivated in tough conditions with minimal resources.

3D Bioprinting Solutions said in a statement that along with its partners, it has laid "the groundwork for renewable protein sources" for long-term crewed missions.

Two hundred and forty-eight miles some distance from Earth and with out a cow in stare, the first portion of beef has been grown in space.

Perhaps that's why scientists are looking for ways to "grow" real meat in space-by mimicking the natural process of muscle tissue regeneration inside an animal's body.

"We are working on a fresh capacity to scheme the identical meat, but in a capacity that uses decrease than half of the greenhouse gases", stated Didier Toubia, CEO of Aleph Farms.

Lab-grown meat is meat made in a laboratory without killing animals. Proving the concept in the "extreme" environment of space serves as an "essential growth indicator" of sustainable food production methods that don't exacerbate land waste, water waste, and pollution, Aleph argued.

The reasoning behind Aleph Farm's efforts to produce "slaughter-free meat in space", as the company describes it, is because of climate change, according to a press release sent by the company to Space.com. 'This joint experiment marks a significant first step toward achieving our vision to ensure food security for generations to come, while preserving our natural resources'.

"The mission of providing access to high-quality nutrition anytime, anywhere in a sustainable way is an increasing challenge for all humans", said Jonathan Berger, CEO of The Kitchen accelerator that co-founded Aleph. "On Earth or up above, we count on innovators like Aleph Farms to take the initiative to provide solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems, such as the climate crisis".
