New Zealand vows to take mental health seriously

Andre Mannini, M's operations manager, said previous year that the hospitality industry "must catch up with other industries and adopt an environment where a younger generation of employees have solid mental wellbeing and are inspired to perform to their finest when at work". The network partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) and the local affiliate NAMI NYC on the creation of these bumpers. The programming will debut in select episodes of HBO's Barry, Euphoria, Girls, Gary Gulman: The Great Depresh, Chris Gethard: Career Suicide, The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling Part 1 & 2 and more.

With all this in mind, occasions like World Mental Health Day offer a useful forum to discuss concerns over mental illnesses and everything from access to stigma.

Those warnings are also usually left to ratings boards like the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) or British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), with more nuanced information being down to the production studio itself - such as the content warnings introduced for 13 Reasons Why, a year after the show first landed, or the disclaimer at the start of Netflix's new show, The Politician, "for those who struggle with their mental health" (in image below). Each bumper will contain a call to action for those who seek help at 1.833.HBO.NAMI or to visit NAMI.org. Encouragingly, almost two thirds (64 per cent) of responses from workers who either have or had a mental health problems mentioned discussing them at work.
